  • I’ve been thinking that its time to get some dishwasher cleaner again but I’ve been putting it off.  I’m glad I did.  I just stumbled across a site that has a VERY inexpensive cleaner they use.  Unsweetened Lemonade Koolaid.  It has to be the Lemonade flavor.  I’m sure anything red would make a mess.  I’m actually excited to try it!   I’d much rather use something safe to ingest that costs about 25 cents than expensive chemicals.

  • It seems that the Box Elder bugs are at it again.  Need some cheap and easy ways to get rid of them?  I found a really good article at Buzzle.com that gave some good ideas.  In the past I’ve used a vacuum cleaner on large groups of them and used foam sealer on all the cracks and crevices in the house to keep them out.  According to this article, they recommend things like spraying them with soapy water, using boric acid, duct tape, or just about any insecticide.  Click Here to read the article.  You might also try calling the local Soil Conservation Service or Extension Office for advice.

  • Here is a recipe I want to try sometime to see how it compares price-wise to Bisquick

    All Purpose Mix

    8 cups flour
1 1/4 cup nonfat dry milk
    1/4 cup baking powder
    1 tablespoon salt
    2 cups shortening

Combine flour, milk, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening. Store in tightly closed container in cool place. Use anywhere Bisquick, all purpose mix or other biscuit mix is called for.

  • Interested in going green as well as saving money?  Get a spray bottle and fill it with cooking oil like Canola or Olive Oil.  Some sources say to water it down and shake before each use.  Others say you just need the cooking oil.  Turn the nozzle to spray instead of stream.  One spray bottle full goes a long way and works just like Pam without the aerosol can.

  • To make some cheap hair detangler:   Fill a spray bottle most of the way with water, Add a little of your favorite conditioner, shake it up a little, and there you go
